Compass Property Management Staff

 

Mark Troy is the owner/broker of Compass Property Management. He was an Infantry Officer for the United States Army. Mark has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western Michigan University and worked at Steelcase for over 10 years in their engineering department and sourcing department. Seven years ago Mark pursued his passion for real estate. He helped build a leasing and property management business; he eventually branched off to start Compass. In his spare time, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife, Christy, and his son, David. He is very active in his church and is a course leader in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. Mark enjoys helping out with local missions and community projects. In his really spare time you will find Mark on a river fishing or grilling on his Weber grill.


 
     
 

 

John Brophy is a recent addition to the Michigan area; he moved here from New Jersey in the summer of 2007. Born and raised in Trenton, John graduated from The College of New Jersey with a BS in Engineering and went on to earn a Masters degree in Engineering Management at NJIT. Having had a number of different jobs working as a bank teller, bartender, and in landscaping, John settled into a career at an automotive supplier working in research and development. John dipped his toes into the property management waters early when he chose an untraditional route of moving out of the nest by purchasing a small 4-family property on the outskirts of Trenton. As a live-in landlord, John quickly learned the ropes of what it takes to balance the financial needs of a property investment with the day-to-day needs of the residents living under his roof.

In 2007, John married his beautiful wife who was a Michigander living in NJ for grad school. Shortly thereafter his family moved from the busy East Coast to Grand Rapids to be closer to family. John enjoys taking advantage of the many things that Michigan has to offer over NJ, such as trees, fresh air, and nice people. He does however miss things such as hills, mountains, and scrapple. In December, 2008 John and his wife welcomed a son to their family.

John is happy to be an addition to the Compass family and looks forward to helping grow and improve the business, both for our owners and residents.

Compass starts a new relationship with West Michigan Maintenance Manager!

November 2009

Compass designs and implements a unique tracking system for our leasing department. This one of a kind database allows us to keep detailed tracking of both managed units as well as vacancy trends in the area to help us best price and rent vacancies!

October 2009

Compass designs and implements a proprietary maintenance and tenant issue tracking database. All incoming calls, both business and maintenance related are tracked and can be analyzed in a number of ways.

September 2009

The new phone system has arrived and Compass can now answer every incoming leasing call with a live operator!

August 2009

Compass begins to manage units in Kalamazoo.

Emma joins CPM as Leasing Department Manager.

Rachael joins CPM as an Assistant in the Leasing Department.

Lindsey completes her summer at CPM and heads off to college.

Marvin joins SOS Home Rehab as Maintenance Office Assistant (& Bryce whole heartily welcomes the help).

Compass purchases an advanced phone system which will allow the queuing of incoming calls (among other features).

Scott Jonkhoff, Director of Next Step of West Michigan, started a non-profit program that provides jobs, affordable housing and healthy relationships to men who need help. Compass offers a new free service for residents! We have created a personal budget form for residents who want a better look at their income and expenses.
